ST. ALBANS, ENGLAND – Michael Epps raced at one of his 'bucket list' tracks this past weekend (September 7-8), exiting the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda doubleheader at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a hard fought top-five finish. The British rising talent is now focused on ending his debut campaign with another strong drive for Belardi Auto Racing during the season-finale in Texas.
With the 2013 USF2000 Championship season fast drawing to close, Epps was looking forward to closing out his inaugural season of racing in North America with some strong results. As an added bonus the penultimate event on the series calendar featured a visit to the renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca road course in northern California, a track the rising British talent has wanted to compete on since first getting behind the wheel of a formula car.
As planned, the opening three test sessions on Friday were spent getting familiar with the 2,238-mile track and its vast elevation changes, and fine tuning the handling of the No. 44 P1 Sports Management/UNATION/iRacing Motorsport Simulations/Anytime Fitness UK racing steed. While Epps and the skilled Belardi Auto Racing crew never found the 'sweet spot' during the day's activities, confidence remained high both in and out of the cockpit.
