Sturgis, MI - RJB Motorsports announced this past Friday at the PRI Show that Indianapolis native Chandler Horton will be taking the seat in the USF-17 for the 2017 season. Horton began testing with the team shortly after the 2016 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda season ended in September, where he showed both his talents as a driver and favorable off-track demeanor.

“We are excited to have Chandler Horton on board for 2017,” stated Ryan Barth, owner of RJB Motorsports. “His ability to adjust to the car during testing was beyond his years and his ability to clearly communicate changing track conditions and the characteristics of the car will help us create s successful 2017 campaign.”

“I'm really looking forward to joining RJB Motorsports,” said Horton. “They have been great to work with thus far, and it has been really exciting to see all of the new things being put in place this off-season. I'm really looking forward to being on the grid at St. Petersburg and having the opportunity to compete on the Mazda Road to Indy, a goal of mine really since I started racing."

Horton is a second generation racer who comes from a racing family. He grew up going to IndyCar races with his family as his dad is the Director of Engineering for INDYCAR. He started racing go karts in 2011 at the age of 13 in the KRA and IKS series in Yamaha Jr.  The following year he continued to race KRA and also started competing in the WKA events in Yamaha Jr.

In 2013 he moved up to the TaG Senior class in both the KRA series and WKA events, while also doing a handful of races in TaG Semi-Pro at USPKS events. He continued to run TaG senior at KRA, WKA and USPKS events in 2014.  2015 saw the beginning of his open-wheel career as he began testing Formula Ford.  In 2016 he competed in SVRA at IMS in a Formula BMW, while also doing SCCA races in the Formula Ford.

Currently he is a full time student at Marian University in Indianapolis where he is studying Business Management. He is a member of Marian’s Division I cycling program where he competes in the mountain bike and road disciplines.

Horton will join the team partnered with Metalloid Corporation in its second year as part of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda. “We are looking forward to great results this season as we continue to grow and build chemistry as a team,” said Barth.

About RJB Motorsports:
Former pro hydro boat racer Ryan Barth established RJB Motorsports in 2011 when he made the switch toward four-wheel racing in the SCCA’s Formula 600 category. He quickly formed a partnership with fellow F600 racers and brothers Fred and Tom Edwards, whose company, Metalloid Corporation, produces a range of environmentally friendly fluids to the metalworking industry. The association led to the formation of the F600 Challenge Series, a cost-effective, entry level championship featuring motorcycle engines and six-speed sequential transmission, and more recently to a long-term goal of assisting talented young drivers via the proven Mazda Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires.

About Metalloid:
In business since 1951, Metalloid manufactures trouble-free technology to the metalworking industry with a focus on providing quality products and service that will increase productivity and profitability. We do this by performing a thorough survey of your operation to match the right product to your application. We complement our products with services such as training seminars, in-plant surveys, and the resources of our state of the art metalworking laboratory.
