Busy Road America Weekend on Tap for USF Pro Championships
PALMETTO, Fla. – A three-week hiatus from racing for the USF Pro Championships Presented by Continental Tire will conclude this week, June 18-21, as the top two rungs on the acclaimed driver development ladder, USF Pro 2000 and USF2000, return to action at Road America. The storied 4014-mile, 14-turn road course set among rolling hills just outside Elkhart Lake, Wis., will play host to a pair of races for USF Pro 2000 and a tripleheader for USF2000 as part of The Andersen Companies Grand Prix of Road America Presented by Elite Engines.
The busy schedule will be spearheaded by the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and will also include a pair of INDY NXT races, a Radical Cup North America tripleheader and an opportunity to see an array of Vintage Indy cars.
Five drivers in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES field – Rinus VeeKay, David Malukas, Kyle Kirkwood, Christian Rasmussen and Louis Foster – can count USF Pro race wins at Road America on their resumes, while all bar two USF Pro 2000 series champions since 2019 have triumphed at the scenic and challenging Wisconsin venue.
Jeffers Leads USF Pro 2000 Roster
Jack Jeffers has experienced a wide range of emotions at Road America during his young career. Jeffers, from San Antonio, Texas, claimed a hat-trick of podium finishes during his first visit to the track in USF Juniors in 2023, including a race win. Last year he qualified on pole position for both USF2000 races and set the fastest race lap in one, but ended the weekend with only a seventh place as his best result after a crash in the opening race. Happily, he was able to rebound and go on to claim both the USF2000 championship and a scholarship prize valued at $405,000 to ensure graduation this year to USF Pro 2000.
This week, after celebrating his 20th birthday on June 17, Jeffers will return to Road America with Exclusive Autosport as the USF Pro 2000 points leader on the strength of two race wins and three pole positions from the opening five races of the season. He also has some momentum on his side after topping the timing charts during a two-day test at the track last week.
Michael Costello, from Naples, Fla., currently trails by just seven points following an impressive performance at the Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park oval, where he grasped the lead from Turn 3 Motorsport teammate Leonardo Escorpioni after 17 laps and held on for the remainder of the 90-lap race to claim a narrow victory.
Escorpioni, a Florida-based Brazilian, had to be content with second place after earning the pole position in his very first oval start. He, too, has impressed during his rookie campaign after winning last year’s USF Juniors championship.
Other likely contenders will include G3 Argyros, from Newport Beach, Calif., who drives for the locally based Pabst Racing team, plus the VRD Racing pair of Frankie Mossman, from Newport Beach, Calif., and Teddy Musella, from Orlando, Fla. – all who were at the top of the timesheets during last week’s test.
Musella secured a pair of podiums in 2025 at Road America including his maiden USF2000 victory. TJ Speed Motorsports’ Thomas Schrage, from Bethel, Ohio, was also a USF2000 race winner at Road America last year.
The USF Pro 2000 contenders will continue preparations with a pair of 55-minute test sessions on Thursday, followed by 30 minutes of official practice at 9:25 a.m. on Friday. A lone qualifying session later in the morning at 11:35 a.m. will determine the starting order for a pair of 15-lap races at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday and 8:55 a.m. on Sunday. All times are CDT.
Garzon Paces Strong USF2000 Field
Colombia’s Sebastian Garzon has made an outstanding start to his sophomore USF2000 campaign with DEForce Racing by securing three wins and three more podium finishes from the opening six races. Consequently, he holds a commanding 54-point lead in the point standings and has his sights firmly set on winning both the championship and a scholarship prize of $409,816 to graduate to USF Pro 2000 in 2027.
Garzon, who posted the fastest lap during a two-day test last week, will face the largest field of the season with 24 other rivals seeking to knock him off his perch.
No fewer than three Australian drivers are expected to feature at the sharp end of the field. Brad Majman, from Melbourne, currently holds second place in the title-chase with one race win to his credit, 23 points and two positions ahead of countryman Eddie Beswick, from Sydney. Both drive for Pabst Racing, based in nearby Oconomowoc, Wis. A third Aussie, Liam Loiacono, from the Gold Coast, returns with JHDD powered by ECR after sweeping all three USF Juniors victories at the track in 2025.
Exclusive Autosport’s Evan Cooley, from Mokena, Ill., and teammate Anthony Martella, from Woodbridge, Ont., Canada, have won races already this season, while second-generation racer Oliver Wheldon, 15, from St Petersburg, Fla., is seeking to build upon an impressive debut at the Indianapolis Grand Prix road course, where he earned pole position for all three races. Wheldon, who was too young to compete in the opening two races of the season in his hometown, drives for VRD Racing, which has won the most recent three races at Road America.
The field will be bolstered by three USF Juniors regulars – Zanella Racing’s Grant Mitchell, from Lake Forest, Ill., Leonardo Serravalle, from Thorold, Ont., Canada, and Exclusive Autosport teammate Cole Medeiros, from Ayr, Ont., Canada – who will be making their USF2000 debuts.
Two 55-minute test sessions on Thursday will precede 30 minutes of official practice at 8:45 a.m. on Friday. The first of two 20-minute qualifying sessions at 10:50 a.m. will set the starting order for the first race on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The second at 1:05 p.m. on Friday will set the grid for the second and third races at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
