Josh Green Cape Announcement 2020

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – With the opening round of this year’s Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires in St. Petersburg now just two months away, Cape Motorsports is excited to announce their first confirmed driver for this year’s Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship.

Mount Kisco, New York’s Josh Green will join the nine-time series champions for 2020, having developed his skills over the last four years competing in national level karting and the F1600 Championship Series. The 17-year-old will pilot the No. 2 Cape Motorsports Tatuus USF-17.

“We are thrilled to announce Josh as our first signing for our 2020 campaign,” commented Nicholas and Dominic Cape. “He has the background we look for, along with Formula Ford experience, which throughout the decades has proven unmatched for developing champions in every form of motorsport. We both feel that he will excel in our team environment.”

Green first tasted the thrill of motorsports driving indoor karts at Grand Prix New York in 2015. Josh quickly moved into outdoor karting at Oakland Valley Raceway Park in Cuddebackville, NY, running in club and regional events in 2016. Over the next two years, he dedicated himself to the craft and began running against stiffer competition in regional and national events, posting impressive results including winning the IAME X30 Junior championship in the 2018 WKA Manufacturers Cup.

In 2019, Josh added a formula car racing program to his karting schedule, and immediately showed his natural abilities running in the F1600 Championship Series. Green won eight races and finished on the podium in 18 of the 21 races, finishing second overall in the championship battle. This season-long performance caught the eye of team USA Scholarship’s Jeremy Shaw who invited Josh to the program’s shootout at Road America last September.

Green rose to the challenge and was one of the two drivers selected to join Team USA at the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy events in England. Josh finished in the top-10 at the Festival and was the top qualifier in the wet for the WHT at Silverstone. He then made his Road to Indy debut at Portland in September, finishing in the top-10 in the second race of the USF2000 doubleheader in his first weekend in the Tatuus USF-17.

"I'm extremely excited to join Cape Motorsports for the 2020 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship,” added Green, who proudly counts Stilo USA as a personal sponsor. “The team has enormous pedigree and, after testing with them earlier this year, I'm super excited to continue working with them and get my head down for the 2020 championship. I'm extremely lucky to have had so many things come my way over the course of this last year, and I'm hugely thankful for all the opportunities that have been given to me. Being given the chance to work with such a prestigious team as Cape Motorsports is a huge honor and I am itching to get back in the seat for pre-season testing!"

The Cape Motorsports crew continues their pre-season testing and everyone is eyeing the season opener at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 13-15.
