Trio of Andrews, Johnson, and Toppe focused strong results in Rounds 11 & 12

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. – JDC MotorSports travels west this weekend (September 7-8), as they continue their chase for Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda points and trophies at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Series regulars Michael Johnson and Clark Toppe will be joined by Australian newcomer Scott Andrews, with the trio looking to build on past team success at the northern California road course.

When the talented USF2000 Championship field rolls on-course at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the skilled JDC threesome of Andrews, Johnson, and Toppe will have the added benefit of data and information from previous race-winning effort. When the Mazda Road to Indy program last competed at the undulating 2.238-mile track just outside Monterey, Calif., in 2010 via two non-points races, JDC exited the doubleheader with a win and runner-up finish.

That being said, both the drivers and crew are aware that they will have to bring the 'A' game if they want to challenge for top honors this time out.

For Johnson, the plan is simple, get the most from himself and his hand-operated No. 54 Universal Coating/SpeediCath/FlatOutNation.com/Red Line Oil/Bell Racing/Alpinestars/JDC MotorSports entry. The second-year racer has continually worked at finding more speed each time he gets behind the wheel, and is poised to make his mark as the season draws to a close.

"I'm really looking forward to running at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend,” commented Johnson. "It's been a long time since I have been driving. This track has so much history and flow to it. My plan is to continue everything I was working on at Mid-Ohio, and improve it even more there. It should be a great weekend with all the JDC guys!"

Toppe, having progressed and developed in and out of the cockpit in his rookie campaign, is focused on further improvements in the No. 19 Toppe Motorsports/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports racer. The California twin bill offers another opportunity to showcase his ever-growing talents, and end the year on a high note.

Piloting the No. 93 Andrews Automotive/AMSF/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports racing steed, Andrews will make his North America debut with proven track record in the junior formula car ranks. With multiple Formula Ford wins in his native Australia, the 23 year-old has his eyes set on making an immediate impression.

"To race in America is a dream come true," stated Andrews. "It's taken a lot of hard work, and the support of my family, friends, and sponsors to make it happen. My goal at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be to learn the car and the circuit in practice, get a clear lap in qualifying, and then go as hard as I can while staying out of trouble in the two races."

The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda doubleheader at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca gets underway for the JDC MotorSports trio of Andrews, Johnson, and Toppe via three test sessions on Friday (September 6). Day two in California features a morning practice session, lunch time qualifying run, and Round 11 at 4:40 pm local time. Round 12 takes place on Sunday (September 8), with the green flag scheduled to wave at 8:10 am local time. Live timing and scoring, and trackside audio will be available at www.usf2000.com.

About JDC MotorSports:
Involved in formula car racing since its inception in 1994, JDC MotorSports has established itself as one of the leading junior open-wheel teams in North America. Initially making its mark in the F2000 class of club racing competition, JDC MotorSports was soon a team worth watching in the pro ranks. Competing in the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, the team not only won races, but also helped develop multiple young drivers. In 2005, JDC MotorSports expanded its efforts, entering the Star Mazda Championship. Quickly becoming one of the top teams in the series, JDC captured both the driver and team titles in 2007, as well as Rookie of the Year honors, with Dane Cameron scoring a series-high three wins. In 2008, JDC MotorSports was the runner-up in the Star Mazda Championship and finished fourth in its inaugural season of F2000 Championship Series competition. The Minnesota-based team won the Star Mazda Championship title with Rookie of the Year Adam Christodoulou, and the F2000 Championship Series title with Chris Miller in 2009. The following year, JDC continued its winning ways, earning the Rookie of the Year award in the Star Mazda Championship with Connor De Phillippi, and scoring a non-points win in the USF2000 National Championship. In 2011, the Minneapolis-based squad captured its third Star Mazda Championship title with Tristan Vautier, scored a win in the USF2000 National Championship, and made its Prototype Lites Championship debut, earning five podium finishes. JDC MotorSports added to its Star Mazda Championship win tally, USF2000 Championship podium total, and finished as the Prototype Lites Championship runner-up in 2012.
