Elkhart Lake, Wis.- The 2016 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda National class would serve as an excellent opportunity for both Spencer Racing and it’s 22-year-old driver Eric Filgueiras to move up into a prestigious organization and experience new exciting venues. One of those historic venues on the schedule was historic Road America in beautiful Elkhart Lake.

After two practice sessions the cars rolled into qualifying, where the team’s efforts wouldn’t be able to shine through due to a broken wheel on lap two. Starting last in race one Filgueiras would fight upward to the lead in the national class, until more misfortune struck the team with a mechanical problem while the field was under full course caution, forcing the #12 Lipten Energy Solutions machine to retire from the race. Race 2 would show similar mechanical problems for the team, with two DNF’s.

“All-in-all it was certainly not the weekend we were hoping for. We showed great speed and passing ability in race 1 before our problems occurred, and unfortunately our results didn’t show our effort. But we will press on to Toronto for the next rounds and make it a much better situation!” explained the young Floridian.

Make sure to join Eric and Spencer Racing for rounds 9 & 10 at The Streets of Toronto July 15-17
