FORTVILLE, Ind. – Having raced at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the F4 United States Championship, Fortville, Indiana’s Al Morey is returning to the venue for the first time in 2023. Set to battle in the USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires with the powerful Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) effort, Morey is looking to work his way back to the form he had in May where he scored several top-10 finishes.

“May was a good month for us on the result sheets with a couple of top-10 finishes and some drives from the back of the pack forward,” explained Morey. “June was not the best, with a couple of incidents involving other drivers beyond my control, so I’m looking forward to a new weekend and the next race to make sure that we can get back on track.”

A rookie in the USF2000 program, Morey has been consistent in his push onward throughout the 2023 season. With several top-10 results, including an impressive run at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and on the oval at Lucas Oil Raceway, Morey rocketed himself near the top-10 in the point standings but a pair of unlucky results at Road America dropped him down to P13 in the title chase.

Morey added, “My goal this season was to be in the top 10 when the final checkered flag flew. We are close but not there yet, but this weekend is a great opportunity to gain some points back at my favorite track and move forward with the three races.”

Sitting 13th in the championship standings only 21 markers outside of 10th and 23 behind the current eighth-place driver, a good weekend in Lexington, Ohio could catapult the JHDD rookie easily into the top 10.

The jam-packed three-day event will kick off Thursday with a pair of test sessions before Friday features a practice, the ever-important qualifying, and race one. Saturday will be the home for races two and three and by the end of the weekend, the 2023 USF2000 program will have only five races over two event weekends remaining.
